Printing a document, signing it with a pen, scanning it and emailing it back takes time and paper. You can sign a PDF directly on your phone or computer in about a minute.
Three ways to create your signature
- Draw it with your finger on a phone or with a mouse or touchpad. On a phone, turning the screen sideways gives you more room.
- Type your name and it is written in a handwriting-style font.
- Upload a photo of your real signature. Sign on white paper with a dark pen, photograph it in good light and crop it close.
Signing with PDFly
- Open Sign PDF and create your signature using one of the methods above. Pick a colour: black or dark blue look most natural.
- Add the PDF. A preview of the last page appears, because that is where signatures usually go. Choose another page in the list if needed.
- Drag the dashed box onto the signature line and resize it with the red corner.
- Tick “Put the signature on every page” if each page must be initialled.
- Press Sign PDF and download the signed file.
Your signature is never stored: it exists only in the open browser tab.
Is it legally valid?
What you add is a visual electronic signature. For many everyday documents — internal forms, delivery notes, rental agreements, parental authorisations — it is widely accepted. Some official procedures, however, require a qualified or certificate-based digital signature issued by an approved provider. When in doubt, ask the recipient which type they accept.
Keep signed documents safe
- Protect sensitive signed documents with a password before emailing them.
- Keep an unsigned original in case you need to correct something.
- Never upload a picture of your signature to a site you don't trust.
